"1 in 8 get help at food banks, 14 million kids among hungry." This is one of the headlines in USA Today as I write this article. The story goes on to say that "...poverty and hardship are rising." How can this be?
The law of attraction swept the country in 2006, by 2007 the movie "The Secret" and the book that inspired it "The Science of Getting Rich," pervaded the Internet and even showed up in stores like Walmart. Yet, in 2008 the U.S. and the world entered the biggest recession that the last several generations have ever known. Many who thought they were practicing "The Secret" and the law of attraction were disenchanted. It was supposed to be easy - just hold the good thoughts. What happened, how can this be?
We got the wrong idea, that's what happened. Sure you have to hold the good thought but the law of attraction is also about action. It's not just wish and it is mine. Rather it is a cycle that you set in motion starting with your thoughts:
visualize an outcome - see the result
take note of the ideas that come to mind
see the world in the context of this vision
notice new things, create a mindset that appreciates things rather than discounts them
add in these things to your vision and let the vision morph
take action in anyway that you can on these ideas and on your vision
repeat morning and night every day
Instead of this process that feeds itself and requires you to get off your ass - many took the approach of the James Thurber character: Walter Mitty.
In "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty" Thurber chronicles a life of dreaming and moving from one thing to the next, not stopping long enough to do something concrete toward any of the things that Mitty wanted to do. It was simply escapism and daydreaming, nothing more that self-deception and a diversion from a boring life.
The law of attraction is meant to lead you into a dynamic life of doing, not wishing. For doing to be effective there must be a plan behind it, hence the visualization and the feedback of ideas and things you discover in the world back into your vision. How could so many miss the most central idea in "The Science of Getting Rich?"
By thought, the thing you want is brought to you; by action you receive it.
This is far from wishful thinking and far from a Walter Mitty kind of existence. Yet many, whether they saw "The Secret" or not, whether they have read "The Science of Getting Rich" or not, have tried some wishful thinking and nothing happened after a few days or a few weeks. Then they conclude that there is nothing to it, nothing to the law of attraction.
1 in 8 get help from the food banks, that is a sad reflection of the state of our country. You can be part of the solution, set the law of attraction cycle into action in your life.
Learn to prosper no matter what shape the economy is in. You can use the law of attraction and "The Science of Getting Rich" as your own secret weapons and your key to success.
