Working From Home? What Happens When You Want to Go on Holidays?

There are two options:

1) You go away and take no work with you at all

2) You go away taking your laptop and plan to work one hour a day (only if your business is internet based of course!).

Which you choose will depend on where you are going and how long for and what type of business you run.

Either can be done easily – here’s how:

1) You go on holiday and don’t take any work with you.

Effectively you are “shutting your shop”. So you must make sure your customers or clients are aware of this. And that they have all they need to see them through. Contact them beforehand and make sure they are set. Also have a back up contact they can reach if needed. Usually a colleague and if you are in network marketing preferably your upline.

Make sure your emails have an auto responder on to reply automatically to home business enquires that you are away. If you have a web site that sends out auto responders on your behalf you can change the first one of these too.

Change your answer telephone to let people know you’re away.

Obviously don’t schedule any appointments or calls while you are away. If you work with a team let them know who they can go to if they get stuck while you are not there.

2) You go away and take your laptop planning to work 1 hour a day.

You could work more than this if you want of course! But an hour should be enough if you run an internet based home business.

If you plan to make calls while on holiday decide in advance how many (if any) of these you want to do. Change your auto responders as above to let people know when you will respond to them.

Only schedule in the critical training calls. Keep it to the minimum you can before you go because things will come in while you’re away.

Check before you go what internet and phone access there is. If there isn’t any that might change your plans a bit! Be particularly good at planning this if you are going overseas.

Let your team and clients know where they can find help instead of you. Because if you are only online for a short time each day you want to only deal with the critical stuff. And they don’t want to be sat twiddling their thumbs for 24 hrs waiting for you to answer their query!

Use this opportunity to learn what the critical income producing tasks are in your home business and ONLY do these in your work time.

Plan ahead:

Whichever you choose a little planning ahead means you can still go on holiday as much as you want without compromising your home business productivity.

And whoever said work from home had to actually be AT home? This is one of the huge advantages of an internet based home business. It doesn’t matter where your home is whether it’s a hotel room or your house!
